Dr. Cleopas Gabriel Sambo

Cleopas Gabriel Sambo is a Lecturer in the Department of Social Work and Sociology and a scholar whose work lies at the intersection of social policy and institutional development. His research examines multidimensional poverty, inequality, livelihoods and wellbeing, gender, health, rights and the politics of everyday life, with particular interest in how welfare policy and governance shape the lives of children, women and men differently, and in the relationship between policy and politics. From 2023 to 2025, he held a prestigious postdoctoral research fellowship at Oslo Metropolitan University.

Cleopas is a member of the Chronic Poverty Advisory Network. He is co-editor of The Politics of Welfare in the Global South (Oxford University Press, 2024) and co-author of Social Policy in Southern Africa (Routledge, 2026). His research is published in leading peer-reviewed journals. Cleopas is a Commonwealth Scholar and earned his doctoral degree from the University of Oxford.
